Um. Hello there. It’s been a while, huh? Please watch your step and make sure that you try not to trip over the dust bunnies.
Awful joke aside, I’m turning 25 years old in a few hours (as of typing this post). In an ideal world, I would be returning to this chaotic little space with a bang. Maybe with an eloquent thinkpiece on the 25 most hard-hitting life lessons I’ve learned.
Instead, I’m making my (slight) comeback with a whimper that sounds suspiciously like a resigned sigh. The kind that’s learned that life is mostly about rolling with the punches, however difficult it may be at times. The kind that’s come to accept that moving forward isn’t always what or how you envisioned it to be — and it is truly, genuinely okay.
While I can’t shake off the perpetual exhaustion from my bones (thank you, adulthood), I’d like to think that I’m also coming back to this space with endless gratitude, cautious optimism, and quiet enthusiasm. With the way things are in my life now, I can’t make extravagant promises — novelty, variety of content, or even consistency.
But I can assure you, dear reader, that I have no intention of letting go of this space so easily. And I can promise that I will continue to share bits and pieces of my life — and the journey that I’m on — whenever I am able to. For now, that’s going to be enough for me. And if you choose to still stick around, thank you. ๐
I’ve thought long and hard about how I wanted to celebrate the start of my quarter-life crisis. And while I am already internally panicking as I type this, I’m also filled with immense gratitude. I may not be where I hoped to be (especially with this pandemic and all), but I am optimistic about the direction I’m heading towards. And that makes me luckier than most, I think.
On that note, I’d like to extend my gratitude forward. A small gift from me to you. I’ll be conducting giveaways on Twitter and Instagram! Both giveaways will run until the end of the month, so be sure to check out the mechanics down below. ๐
Giveaway #1
Unsurprisingly, given the nature of my platform, I am giving away one book to a lucky reader! The winner can select any book worth $20 of their choosing. This is open worldwide, as long as Book Depository or Fully Booked can ship to your address. ๐
Mechanics
๐ป Subscribe to my blog (Shut up, Shealea). You can do this via email subscription, WordPress, or Bloglovin’.
๐ป Leave a comment on this post. Make sure to mention your Twitter or Instagram handle so that I have a way to contact you, should you be randomly selected as the winner.
๐ป +1 Bonus entry: On your comment, leave a book recommendation or mention a book that’s been a comfort to you during this weird, tumultuous time.
๐ป +1 Bonus entry: Retweet my birthday tweet and follow me on Twitter.
Giveaway #2
If you’ve been following me on Instagram, then you probably noticed that I’ve developed a huge interest in scented candles. They’re so calming and wonderful! Plus, the PH candle community is so kind. And on that note, I’m also giving away a scented candle to one lucky resident in the Philippines! Giveaway details will be revealed on Instagram in a couple of days, so make sure to follow me there, too.
I am so unbelievably rusty in blogging, so I have no idea how to properly end this blog post. But if you’ve made it all the way to this part, I hope you’re doing well, staying safe, and taking care of yourself. ๐ป

Happy birthday! The Cute Mutants series has been a great comfort read for me. It’s gay af, easy and enjoyable, and is all about superheroes!
Which is why, I’m also going to recommend it. It tackles a lot of societal issues, mainly about sexuality, gender preference, and homophobia.

Happy birthday!!
It’s still such a chaotic time for all of us, but I’m so glad to find some peace and joy in this community. My comfort read these days is a webtoon called “Odd Girl Out”! S1 focuses on character development and the female friendships in the series – if you ever meet someone who doubts how a story of middle school aged girls with little to no romance could be so engaging and gut wholesome, show them this story. Then, they can read S2, where the romance /actually/ begins – with not one but two respectful, dynamic, and emotionally intelligent love interests!

I am excited for what unfolds for you!
I haven’t read a book this entire pandemic. I’ve been feeling sluggish in the reading department these last few years. So I can only share that what keeps me hopeful was the chance to reread my favorite book which I can only find in our local library here in the province.

Happy, happy birthday, sis! โฅ๏ธ Getting to know you better has been one of the best parts of my year. I don’t wanna expose us both so my birthday wish for you can only be seen by a controlled crowd (I think you know where ๐). Happy Birthday Shealea! Sending you virtual hugs ๐ Itโs truly amazing that you made it to a quarter of 100 years. I suggest you take in a breather and just take in what you already have in life that makes you happy, like books! One book that helped me cope during this global panini is A List of Cages by Robin Roe. Itโs a YA story of brotherly friendship, self discovery and learning to be brave. Itโs also a story of abuse, loss, and at times life-threatening. But with all that was the perfect book to make me feel all the emotions. I hope you find a book (or more books) that gives you a thrilling emotional roller coaster. Again, happy b-day and hope you have a relaxing day.
