As a wide reader and huge advocate of diverse books, I think it’s extremely important to not only support marginalized authors but to also help underrepresented readers find great books that they can truly identify with. Personally, as a Filipino reader, Asian representation means the world to me — and I cannot adequately stress just how starved I am for authentic Filipino characters.
With all that said, I’ve constructed this index to make it easier to search and to find specific representations and the like. These tags will direct you to book reviews, bookish lists, and recommendations that offer what you’re looking for. It is worth noting that most of these tags pertain to on-page character representation.
BY GROUP/REGION: ASIAN AUTHORS (FILIPINO AUTHORS) • BLACK AUTHORS • INDIGENOUS AUTHORS • MIDDLE EASTERN AUTHORS • LATINE/LATINX AUTHORS
Note: Although there are tags regarding authors’ identities, I am personally not comfortable with classifying them according to their sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression because doing so may lead to their forced outing, targeted harassment, among other dangers and risks.
